Things To Do in Dracut, MA
A town in Middlesex County, MA, Dracut is the second most populous town in all of Massachusetts that has an open town meeting system of governance. The town has over 32,000 people living it it over about 21.36 square miles.
Europeans had settled the area in around 1653, establishing the town of Chelmsford, which was incorporated in 1655 on the opposite side of the Merriamck River from where modern Dracut would reside. The area known as the Augumtoocooke land had been sold soon after, known as the Webb of Draucutt of Norfolk County, the deed officially labelled “Drawcutt upon Mirrimack.” Chelmsford had protected the area for a length of time until it grew too costly.
Dracut has maintained a large number of parks for the public to partake in and engage with, the town partially having a waterway as part of its official area. The Veterans Memorial Park is an essential part of the area, having a good look into the history of veterans who have lived in and around the area. Dillon McAnespie Park is one of the nicest parks in the area, as well, always worth a visit! Other parks include Varnum Park, Eash Richarson Preserve, Carrick Field, and Beaver Brook Walking Trail.
